ABOUT:

Is it always the question that motivates us to look for an answer? Or is it the vague feeling of the drive that makes you go your way without ever wanting to know the question and the answer?

"Whatever it is that may move artists, the confrontation with themselves determines their motivation."

Sven Müller

Born in 1977 in the small town of Wilhelmshaven, Germany, the artist began early to seek his involvement with the here and now. The craft training as a stonemason and glazier and the acquisition of extensive skills in materials significantly influenced the first years of his artistic work.

In 2002, Sven went on a quest, consciously or unconsciously, to give form to his feelings about himself and his environment. The direction first emerged in manifold representation of sculptures, light objects, and large-scale abstract paintings. Since 2016, the artist are in the process of making a name for himself in the art world with thematic reverse glass painting and space-taking glass installation.

Glass is a medium for his themes.

Themes as in the "Fragmentation of ego", which he showed in the collective exhibition at the Oldenburg City Museum ("Fragmentation of ego") 2021. A 6 m high crystalline mirror installation growing out of the ground, deals with the inner loss of reality in a crisis, which breaks down the feeling of knowing and believing in one's truth into fragments. Or in 2023 the first part of a series "People of Color" was shown at the Museo Cole del Duomo in Viterbo in Italy, where general conceptualizations of ethnicities he deals with.

(People of Color).

Thematic explorations since 2017 are marked in works such as "Doors of Perception", "Woman Collage" and "Social Suicide" socio-critical ideas and thoughts of the self. Where not only exclusively, but predominantly the medium glass plays the main role.

Glass with its millennium-long history, the unbelievable depth, reflection, and shaping, finds expression in the reverse glass painting as well as the installation art

has always inspired Sven Müller.

Away from creating as an artist, Sven Müller has made a name for himself in Oldenburg's art scene since 2019 with the founding of "The Hidden Art Project". In cross-disciplinary exhibitions of theater, film, music, and visual art visibility for more than 200 artists* was created. Cooperation with other projects and galleries from Germany and the Netherlands has been initiated. And the Oldenburg city population was involved with low-threshold formats.
